Who Is Hina?
Hina is an ancient and multifaceted feminine presence, known across the Pacific by many names and in many forms. She is the goddess of the moon, the keeper of the tides, and the guardian of female power, navigation, and the deep waters of the feminine heart. She is not confined to one island or one culture—she is a thread that runs through the entire Pacific, weaving together the stories of Hawai'i, Tahiti, Rarotonga, Samoa, Tonga, and beyond.
In Rarotongan tradition, Hina is especially honoured. She is the sister or consort of the sun god, and her pull on the tides is a reflection of her power over the waters. She is the one who guides the voyagers, who watches over women in the night, and who holds the sacred knowledge of the stars. She is gentle, but she is not soft—she is the force that moves the ocean, the pull that shapes the shore, the rhythm that governs the cycles of all life.
